"One Step Beyond" - 20 Year Reunion - Special Tribute this Friday Night.

"One Step Beyond", the iconic underground mid 80's to 1990 dance club in Santa Clara, will be holding their 20 year anniversary this Saturday July 30th.

The location is no other than the venue that used to hold the other iconic night club of the late 80's era, "The Vortex", as well as the follow up "The Edge".

Club Illusions is located at 260 S. California Ave. in Palo Alto, CA.

The venue is now called "Club Illusions".

I grew up during the majority of my teenage youth going to One Step Beyond and Vortex. Dancing to Book of love, Cocteau Twins, DM, Secession, ... I recall the achy legs and late nights at Denny's that followed the music bliss. Punkers, New Wavers, Skaters, Mods, Goths... all found solace in underground dancing at One Step.

Some bands that graced the stage, many that I still play music from the past as well as their latest on my weekly radio program, include: Red Flag, Psychedelic Furs, Ocean Blue, Xymox, Front Line Assembly, Front 242, Book of Love, Nitzer Ebb... and many others.

In 2000 when my calling was exposing the underground synth pop sound to the south bay community, I started the show on KSCU 103.3fm, naming it after these two main stays in killer alternative club dancing during the 80's.

That was how "One Vortex Beyond" began.

The program aired for 6 years before I moved to Portland and took a Synth Pop Sabbatical, playing some Portland new wave & industrial clubs, DJing the bay area for New Wave City and Cat Club events for 4 years before finding a new home for the program.

This Friday the entire 2 hours of the show, now at it's brand new home on Portland's 107.1fm and on line Live streaming at www.kmhd2.org ...will be dedicated to this very anticipated event.

Tune in this Friday night July 29th from 7-9pm for OVB's "One Step Beyond Reunion Tribute".

The 1st half an hour my special guest is no other than the night's founder, Stan. He chooses 3 songs that represent something special to OSB during those years and chats about creating the club so desired in the suburban south bay area.

The remaining portion of the show will be the songs that made you laugh and the songs that made you cry...

Listen, relive, go search for those old Creepers...and I will see you at the party on Saturday for the "One Step Beyond" reunion.
