During the 90's Kenny was concerned with the Post Nirvana crash of guitar rock era infused alternative radio. He felt it was his duty to expose the radio listeners to alternative synth pop, from the early days as well as the modern interpretation of the genre that has been all but ignored by radio trying to find "the next big thing".
DJ Kenny noticed the disservice these alternative stations were doing by not exposing melancholic intelligent synth based music still being produced by artists that had more exposure in the 80's such as Pet Shop Boys, Human League and Erasure, as well as the new breed from the likes of Mesh and VNV Nation.
For 6 years he hosted One Vortex Beyond on KSCU 103.3 FM "The Underground Sound" in Santa Clara CA to a cult following of hungry music lovers.
DJ Kenny also ventured into famous bay area clubs to spin his recipe of underground synth such as The Blank Club for Atomic and Satori, New Wave City in San Francisco, and many others.
The final show at the university station commenced with a farewell KSCU program including interviews with band he had exposed to the synth lovin world before they hit it big...such as Nukleon, The Echoing Green, and Shiny Toy Guns.
This was the final show for one station to feature One Vortex Beyond, but the legacy continues on a new station, every Friday night from 7-9pm on www.kmhd2.org and 107.1fm in Portland, OR.
...stay tuned.
